Hello 3DEM Community.

We are exploring Graphenea grids (UltrAuFoils with graphene coating) and exposure to hydrogen plasmas. For specimens that were working fine with amorphous carbon films (lacey with carbon over the holes), we seem to get much less sample on Graphenea grids after normal glow discharge (PelcoEasiglow - 45sec, 15mAmp, 0.39mBarr). We explored working with these same grids using 100% Hydrogen plasma (30 sccm, 100% power, 4e-4 Torr generated with Fischione 1070) for 10, 20 and 40 seconds. Unfortunately with our specimen, we don't see an increase in protein adsorption as previously reported (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24747813/__;!!Mih3wA!W2ZEvZsHaXOh6L3SLsRIkcAObX7QU78SQu2aDuyHKfGaqJYmCxM1Ug1O9XzNql1J8w$ ). We have the grids held in a Pelco Grid clamping block for plasma treatment. Can anyone provide tips/tricks? Any other pretreatments needed? We are open to all suggestions as the cost of these grids is a concern.

Thanks in advance,
