Dear All,

Anyone interested in a Postdoctoral opportunity combining electron microscopy and Mass spectrometry to investigate the role of lipid composition on membrane protein structure and stability? then read on.

This is an opportunity to be part of a 3 year project funded by BBSRC, GlaxoSmithkline, and UCB to study the importance of specific lipids in membrane protein structure and function. To address this important question this project will combine cutting edge mass spectrometry and EM, taking advantage of the recent investment within the University of Leeds. This includes the Astbury Biostructure facility which houses two Titan Krios microscopes and a ~£1M investment in the mass spectrometry facility to incorporate an ion-mobility enabled Q-TOF mass spectrometer, a fully automated HDX-MS system, FPOP (Fast Photochemical Oxidation of Proteins) and a custom-modified Orbitrap.

This project is built upon our previous work looking at new methodologies for membrane protein extraction, in particular styrene maleic acid co-polymers (SMA) (Lee et al., Nat Protocols 2016 & Parmar et al., BBA Biomembranes 2017). For an overview of recent research by the group see Agip AA et al., Nat. Struct. Mol. Biol. 2018, Rawson S et al., PNAS 2018 & Amporndanai K et al., IUCrJ 2018.
