Dear All,

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the laboratory of Dr Christian Speck in the Institute of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine at the Hammersmith Campus of Imperial College London (http://www.specklab.com/). The Postdoctoral position is full-time for 3 years with the possibility for extension and the salary range is £33,860 - £42,830 per annum. The successful applicant will become part of a group of multi-disciplinary colleagues and collaborators and will investigate fundamental biological mechanisms in eukaryotic DNA replication using cryo-EM approaches.

A vital property of all living things is the ability to replicate their DNA, allowing cells to pass on their genetic material from parent to progeny. The successful candidate will employ cryo-EM to address two of the most fundamental questions in eukaryotic DNA replication: how the replicative helicase becomes loaded onto DNA and activated for DNA synthesis. This knowledge will be crucial to understand how misregulation of DNA replication leads to disease and for the development of novel DNA replication inhibitors with potential as anti-cancer drugs.

The work will be performed in collaboration with Prof. Xiaodong Zhang (Imperial College London), Prof. Richard Henderson (MRC, Laboratory of Molecular Biology) and our long-term collaborator Prof. Huilin Li (Brookhaven National Laboratory), who will also help to mentor and advise a postdoctoral fellow. The candidate will have full access to the well-equipped cryo-EM facility at Imperial College London. Regular access to a Titan Krios will be possible. By joining the group the candidate will not only participate in high profile research projects, but will be also mentored in successful grant writing, networking and publishing. Crucially, the candidate will also have direct access to protein samples (Fernandez-Cid et al Mol Cell 2013<http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23603117>, Herrera et al NAR 2015<http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26338774>) produced by group members, which are ideally suited for high resolution cryo-EM.

The candidates will be expected to hold a PhD in Structural Biology/Biochemistry or have equivalent experience. They must have extensive expertise in structural electron microscopy and good knowledge in protein purification. The latest start date is summer 2016.

For informal inquiries or questions please contact Christian Speck directly (chris.speck at imperial.ac.uk<mailto:chris.speck at imperial.ac.uk>).
