[3dem] Cryo-EM Senior Faculty Position at Oregon Health & Sciences University

Michael Chapman chapmami at ohsu.edu
Tue Nov 10 10:48:15 PST 2015

Professor, Single particle Cryo-Electron Microscopy or Cryo-Electron Tomography
An established investigator is sought to play a leadership role in developing the highest resolution imaging component of the OHSU Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine (OCSSB; http://www.ohsu.edu/ocssb) and the OHSU / FEI Living Laboratory, tenure likely residing in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. OCSSB, part of the Knight Cancer Center, is investing heavily in development of biomolecular imaging, including multiple forms of electron and super-resolution microscopy. The recruit will provide leadership in cryo-EM activities and will lead recruitment of additional faculty and staff and purchase of additional high resolution analysis instrumentation (currently including a Titan Krios(tm), Falcon II and K2 detectors, and a phase plate). Close collaborations with FEI Inc. and Intel Corp. in Portland are providing opportunities to develop new capabilities in image collection and processing.
The position was advertised in the October 30th issue of Science. With the $1B expansion of the Knight Cancer Center, there will be exciting opportunities for collaboration, but applications will be welcome from those with broad interests in fundamental cellular or molecular biology. Candidates should have extensive records of research in structural biology, interest in advancing EM technology, leadership experience, and the vision to help EM realize its full potential in basic biomedical research. Enquiries may be directed (in confidence) to Eric Gouaux (gouauxe at ohsu.edu<mailto:gouauxe at ohsu.edu>), James Chen (chezh at ohsu.edu<mailto:chezh at ohsu.edu>), Joe Gray (grayjo at ohsu.edu<mailto:grayjo at ohsu.edu>; director OCSSB) or Michael Chapman (chapmami at ohsu.edu<mailto:chapmami at ohsu.edu>; search chair). On-line applications (www.OHSUjobs.com<http://www.OHSUjobs.com>, ref. IRC49876) will be considered from December 1st until the position is filled. Include a CV, contact information for three referees and a statement of research interests and plans.
