Dear Colleagues,
A few months ago, we introduced our monolayer CVD graphene TEM grids to the cryo-EM community through this forum. We were delighted to receive considerable interest from researchers at universities, research institutes, pharmaceutical companies, and CROs worldwide.
Since then, many researchers have tested our grids with different biological specimens. We have received encouraging feedback, with several groups reporting improvements in their cryo-EM sample preparation and imaging results. Some laboratories have subsequently placed orders and continued using our grids in their research.
We sincerely appreciate the trust, support, and valuable feedback from the community.
Recent Research Highlights
We are particularly pleased to share two recent publications involving the application of monolayer graphene grids in structural and cellular biology:
1. Nature (2026) – RNA-Editing Complexes

In this study, Atomface monolayer graphene grids were used to help address preferred orientation challenges in the structural analysis of mitochondrial RNA-editing complexes.
2. Vita (2026) – Cellular Structural Biology

This study demonstrates the application of graphene-supported grids in investigating complex cellular structures using cryo-electron microscopy.
Technical Discussion and Sample Preparation Support
We understand that cryo-EM sample preparation can be challenging, particularly when dealing with preferred orientation, low particle density, protein aggregation, uneven ice thickness, or limited sample availability.
Different biological samples and preparation instruments often require different optimization strategies, and there is no universal protocol that works for every experiment.
At Atomface, we are always happy to exchange ideas with researchers and discuss sample-specific preparation strategies, including graphene surface treatment, sample concentration, blotting conditions, and other relevant factors.
Whether you are working with soluble proteins, membrane proteins, protein–RNA complexes, or cellular specimens, we would be glad to learn about your experimental challenges and explore possible solutions together.
We believe that meaningful progress in cryo-EM sample preparation comes not only from improved materials, but also from close communication and collaboration with the research community.
We warmly welcome your questions, feedback, and experiences, and look forward to further technical exchanges with the cryo-EM community.
Best regards,
Limin Qu
