Dear 3DEM community,

Dr. Shiwei Zhu's lab at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Case
Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, currently has an immediate
postdoctoral position available.

The Zhu lab is seeking a postdoctoral training fellow to join our team to
investigate the host defense mechanisms and the adaptation of pathogens
within host cells. In this exciting opportunity, you will utilize
cryo-electron tomography and Aquilos-2 cryo-focused ion beam/scanning
electron microscope (cryo-FIB/SEM) integrated with an internal
cryo-correlative light electron microscope (cryo-CLEM) to visualize crucial
biological processes to defend host cells against external threats. Your
responsibilities will include: developing imaging pipelines for
high-throughput in situ cryo-ET and its applications in studying
host-pathogen interactions; reconstituting functional antimicrobial
complexes, determining their structures using cryo-electron
microscopy/tomography (cryo-EM/ET), and experimentally testing
structure-based hypotheses to gain new insights into the molecular
mechanisms of antimicrobial complexes.

You will have access to state-of-the-art cryo-EM facilities, including a
Glacios TEM for sample screening and Titan Krios microscopes for cryo-ET
data collection, through the cryo-EM core at CWRU. You also have full
access to cryo-FIB/SEM and cryo-CLEM for in situ cryo-ET studies. For
obtaining detailed information, please visit our lab website,

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in one or more of
the following areas: structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics,
microbiology, or cell biology. Prior experience in structural biology
research is not necessary. To inquire about the position, please email Dr.
Zhu (shiwei.zhu at case.edu) with a cover letter detailing your research
interests, a recent CV, and the contact information of two academic
referees.

We eagerly anticipate receiving applications from all candidates.
