Dear all,

Thank you all for your input and suggestions (via my direct e-mail). Very helpful.

Most people suggested some kind of Ca containing (CaP) aggregates, similar to inclusions that can be found in mitochondria and which apparently can be formed in PBS buffers where there also is Ca present.

Literature research led me to two articles with very similar structures which indeed were Ca containing aggregates (Xu, Y., Tijssen, K.C.H., Bomans, P.H.H. et al. Microscopic structure of the polymer-induced liquid precursor for calcium carbonate. Nat Commun 9, 2582 (2018). https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-018-05006-w__;!!Mih3wA!FpjoTJKGoBdFoDMndgcQWhAKCoLpgCDvMLi2XlowXaZJXhKyfB8bgJAv1xQuksASY_IYoprwv6veylySXhKdoKU$ ; Habraken, W., Tao, J., Brylka, L. et al. Ion-association complexes unite classical and non-classical theories for the biomimetic nucleation of calcium phosphate. Nat Commun 4, 1507 (2013). https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://doi.org/10.1038/ncomms2490__;!!Mih3wA!FpjoTJKGoBdFoDMndgcQWhAKCoLpgCDvMLi2XlowXaZJXhKyfB8bgJAv1xQuksASY_IYoprwv6veylySDvkDYyY$ ).

I will check the buffers and beam sensitivity of the samples (and possibly EDX/EELS) to check all this.

Best regards,

Roman

Dear all,

I would like to have you expert opinion on what the structures in the attached image might be. The structures are quite dense in my opinion. I have my ideas but I am not at all sure. I hope any of you have seen similar structures.

Best regards,

Roman
