3D Cell Electron Microscopy Core Facility Manager

Overview: The UW-Madison Center for Quantitative Cell Imaging (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://cellimaging.wisc.edu__;!!Mih3wA!EgK7s6kLHM1ZznH7uq4XZwobMla4TmYZhZLDf23B1sxfrT9LNxlPr_ugzp-E4116mtTzTOFltOzJZv9nCzs$ )  seeks to hire an experienced electron microscopy researcher to manage its 3D Electron Microscopy facility.  The 3D Cell Electron Microscopy Core Facility is a recently established imaging core which specializes in electron tomography of cellular structures. Instruments include two high pressure freezers (a Leica ICE and a Baltec high-pressure freezer) for preparation of biological samples for transmission electron microscopy and a Talos F200C 200kV scanning transmission electron microscope with electron tomography capabilities.
Description: This manager position would be responsible for all research operations of the facility including: helping develop and implement a business plan for the facility, training new users, running the instruments for users, preparing samples for user, maintaining the equipment and advertising the facility to potential users. This position is a great opportunity for an electron microscopist to work directly with researchers on important biological problems.
Your Tasks: Every day running of the facility including operation and maintenance of the Talos F200C transmission electron microscope and Leica ICE high pressure freezer. Training of users in both instruments. Ordering of basic supplies and consumable. Tracking of instrumentation usage and reservations to calculate user fees. Participation in campus informational meetings for facility core administrators and helping promote the facility. Your Profile: A Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Biology, Microscopy or related field. Demonstrated experience with biological samples preparations, such as animal cells, plant tissues, yeast is desirable.  Experience with running a core previously is preferred. Excellent communication skills are expected along with willingness to work with students and users across campus.
