Dear all,
The Zimmer lab at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks to recruit several postdoctoral fellows to study the formation and assembly of carbohydrate-based cell walls and other protective surface structures of human pathogens. The projects integrate a variety of techniques, including cryo electron microscopy and tomography, X-ray crystallography, single particle localization microscopy, as well as biochemistry and glycobiology.
The lab is located adjacent to a state-of-the-art cryo EM core facility (including a Titan Krios with K3 detector and energy filter, a Glacios with Falcon 4 detector, as well as screening microscopes) and has access to several super-resolution fluorescence microscopy units. The University of Virginia is located in Charlottesville, a vibrant and international city nestled in the scenic Shenandoah National Park. Charlottesville is about 100 miles from Washington DC and 80 miles from Richmond/VA.
Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent degree with at least one peer reviewed first author publication. A strong background in molecular biology is preferred and experience in structural biology is advantageous but not required. The positions are available immediately. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references directly to me (jz3x at virginia.edu<mailto:jz3x at virginia.edu>).
Sincerely,
Jochen Zimmer
