We invite applications for a Cryo-electron microscopist to join our Transmission Electron Microscopy facility, one of the core research facilities in the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, Queen Mary University of London. The Cryo-EM specialist will be responsible for the management and operation of our recently acquired JEOL JEM-2100Plus Transmission Electron Microscope equipped with a 16 Megapixel Oneview CMOS camera with SerialEM software. As a member of the LonCEM consortium, SBCS has access to the Titan Krios hosted in the Crick Institute and the Cryo-EM specialist will facilitate access. The postholder will provide training, advice and assistance to TEM users to undertake their research projects based on Cryo-TEM for high-resolution structure determination. The postholder will work in conjunction with the TEM facility manager to keep the facility to a high standard and assist the Building Manager and Health and Safety co-ordinator in maintaining a positive safety culture.

A PhD or equivalent in Structural Biology or other relevant subject is essential for this post.  Further essential requirements include advanced hands-on research experience in using cryo-electron microscopes for structural characterisation of macromolecules, advanced experience in data processing for cryoEM reconstructions using Relion, CryoSPARC, Xmipp, EMAN2 etc, and experience of interacting with researchers within a HEI or industrial laboratory in a research environment.

A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team and work in a demanding and challenging environment with multiple priorities and serve users with conflicting demands are also essential.

The post is permanent and full time (35 hours per week).  The expected start date is as soon as possible.  The salary is £38,084 - £44,807 per annum and is inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
