We seek a dynamic, innovative Director of the UT Southwestern Medical Center state-of-the art cryoelectron microscopy facility. The facility houses two Thermo Scientific cryo-TEM microscopes, a Titan Krios and Talos Arctica, each equipped with a Gatan K3 direct electron detector and Volta phase plate. Two additional similarly-equipped FEI microscopes, a Titan Krios and Glacios, will be installed in a second, newly renovated location in the summer of 2020. These instruments serve a vibrant community of scientists using both single-particle and tomographic methods to determine structures of molecules and their assemblies in vitro and in frozen cells.

Duties of the Director will include: overseeing all operations and developing a strategic vision for the future, leading and managing a support staff of 4-5 scientists, developing and managing yearly and long-term budgets, interfacing with the user community (>35 labs, including 8 HHMI investigators and 3 Nobel laureates), working with an internal governance committee to establish usage policies, interfacing with vendors to advance existing equipment and purchase new instrumentation, leading efforts to apply for external grant funding to support the facility, overseeing renovations and installation of the two new microscopes at the new site. The Director will have a Research Track Faculty appointment commensurate with experience.

Qualifications for this position include: deep and broad expertise in cryo-EM instrumentation and data acquisition software, hands-on expertise in single-particle structure determination, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to manage people and projects, and to write grants. Ideal candidates will have prior core facility and teaching experience.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a 1-2 page description of previous experience and accomplishments in cryo-EM and names of three individuals who could provide letters of reference. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Please apply online at: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/15818

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women, minorities, veterans and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
