Deadline Approaching - May 27th, 2018

We invite prospective candidates to apply for a newly created Facility Manager position within the London Consortium for Cryo EM (LonCEM).
Imperial College London, in partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research, King’s College London, and Queen Mary - University of London, has been awarded funding by the Wellcome Trust to establish a new Electron Microscopy Facility to be hosted by the Francis Crick Institute, which has already established its own cryoEM facility. The new Facility will include a FEI Titan Krios cryo electron microscope equipped with a Volta phase plate, a Falcon III detector and a Gatan Bioquantum energy filter and K3 detector. It will offer state of the art electron cryo-microscopy for high-resolution structural determination.
The post holder will be an employee within the Section of Structural Biology, Department of Medicine, Imperial College London (https://www.structurebiomed.org) and work closely with Consortium members. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running and management of the new Facility. This will include helping users access the facility for data collection, advising users on sample preparation and quality and helping manage time allocation within the consortium. The Facility Manager will ensure that all users receive adequate training, comply with all health and safety requirements, and provide assistance with the development of research projects and analysis of results.
This exciting and challenging post requires a strong and diverse skill set. In depth knowledge and practical experience of high resolution electron cryo-microscopy single particle analysis and/or electron cryo-tomography as applied to biological systems is essential. In addition, given the collaborative nature of the project, you will need the ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels across different institutions and therefore have strong communication skills. Organisation skills, and the ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure are also essential.
