Overview:

The School of Biological and Chemical Sciences is a large and expanding academic unit, which provides a supportive and friendly environment and encourages interdisciplinary research. We are investing in the acknowledged strengths in the School to advance its areas of internationally-competitive activity.  We have strong links with other Schools within the Faculty as well as with Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and also the cross-disciplinary Institutes of Bioengineering and Materials Research. The School is also involved in an exciting joint venture with Nanchang University in biomedicine and contributes to the Life Sciences Initiative.

Applications are invited from candidates who will contribute to the delivery of high-quality research, teaching and administration in the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences by:
o   Making significant research contributions in Structural Cell Biology as demonstrated by recent papers in high quality journals and competitively awarded research grant income or convincing potential to generate income. We are particularly keen to recruit someone who can further develop the use of state-of-the-art approaches to cell structure such as cryo-electron tomography and super-resolution fluorescence microscopy. The ability to contribute to one or more of our research strengths in Chromosome biology, Structural Biology, Bioenergetics, Microbial Cell Biology, Cell Signalling or Healthy ageing would be an advantage.
o   Teaching and the assessment of student achievement in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences or Physiology.
o   Contributing to the administration of these and other College activities.



The successful candidate will have a strong track record of publishing high quality papers and the ability to establish an internationally-competitive research group.

A competitive remuneration package and start-up funds are negotiable, but we will also be happy to consider applications from people with their own funding who wish to explore proleptic positions in the School.

The post is full time and permanent starting in March 2019 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The salary for a Lecturer will be in the range of £41,682 - £51,899 and for a Senior Lecturer it will be £54,853 - £61,311 per annum and will be in accordance with experience, qualifications and track record.
