[3dem] Gatan 914 holder - should shutter close further than this?

Dear Wim,

Thanks for your suggestions, here is an image of the contamination - I suppose my simply calling it leopard-print is not so useful.
To my eye, it looks like it is on the surface, and has a direction, as if deposited by a flow.

One user had the problem, so the holder was baked out thoroughly, and the next user had the same problem next morning.
In the case of the 914, instead of a clip ring there are metal flaps that are pushed up and then return elastically. A temperature problem could be caused by the metal flap being over stressed or needing more tension - thanks for pointing it out!

I’m still curious if anyone else’s 914 closes further.

Leopard print is typically caused by temperature problems, when the holder not being baked properly, or the clipping not making full contact.
Shutter problems would show contamination by large ice crystals picked up during holder insertion through air with the shutter not completely shielding.

I wanted to know from other users of 914 holders, does the underside of your shutter look like this when closed, or does it slide further to completely seal away the grid?

An alternative cause of the contamination is a leak through the shutter rod assembly.
