The Department of Molecular Biology at the Leiden University Medical Centre is looking for a:

Post-doctoral researcher in cryo-electron tomography (1,0 fte)

A 2-year post-doc position is available for an electron microscopist with experience in cryo-electron tomography and sub-tomogram averaging working on the structure of antibodies on antigenic surfaces, which follow our earlier work (Diebolder et al., Science (2014) 343 (6176)). The research will cover all aspects of structure determination by cryo-electron tomography including sample preparation, data collection, data processing - including tilt series reconstructions and sub-tomogram averaging - and 3D visualization.

Function Description

The candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or related fields. The ideal candidate has over 3 years experience in cryo-EM. Advantageous would be previous practical experience with liposome systems and antibodies. Important will be your ability to work project oriented and precise and collaborate successfully with other scientists. Good communication skills and knowledge of English are required.

LUMC and Genmab

The successful candidate will join the Department of Molecular Cell Biology at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) in Leiden, the Netherlands (https://electronmicroscopy.lumc.nl/index.html). Part of the work will be performed at the Netherlands Center for Electron Nanoscopy (NeCEN) in Leiden (www.necen.nl). This state of the art facility is equipped with two Titan Krios microscopes with phase plate, energy filter, Cs corrector and K2 and/or Falcon II direct electron detectors. The work is a collaboration with Genmab, a biotechnology company that is specialized in the creation and development of human antibody therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, located in Utrecht, the Netherlands (http://www.genmab.com/).

Salary

Salary will be based on past experience of the candidate, with a maximum of 4073 euro per month. Initially the position will be funded for 2 years, with possibility of extension.

Candidates should contact Dr. Roman Koning (r.i.koning at lumc.nl<mailto:r.i.koning at lumc.nl>) or Prof. Dr. Ir. Bram Koster (a.j.koster at lumc.nl<mailto:a.j.koster at lumc.nl>) and should include a CV, short statement of accomplishments and electron microscopy skills, research interests, and contact information for at least two references.
