Hi Fabien,

Currently we use a bottle of Uranyl formate (UF) powder which we believe is about 10 years old - although we can't be sure, because it was inherited from another lab in Sheffield 5 years ago.

The stain is fine.

We only make partially neutralised 0.75% solution of UF in 5 ml aliquots for immediate use. This solution would last normally for up to 1-2 weeks in the fridge. The solution is discarded if the UF starts precipitating.

UF must not be exposed to direct sunlight and should be kept away from any other light whenever possible. We use foil-wrapped beakers/tubes for the stain solution. The powder itself came in a brown bottle and is stored in the dark.
