POSTDOCTORAL POSITION(S) AVAILABLE
in Structural Biology and Image Processing
at Brandeis University

Postdoctoral position(s) are available in the Nicastro laboratory at
Brandeis University starting fall/winter 2006. Our research is focused on
structural biology, with special emphasis on 3-D structure/function
relationships of macromolecular complexes within cells. Areas of interest
include cryo-electron tomography of eukaryotic flagella and axonemal dynein,
other organelles, cytoskeleton and bacteria.

The laboratory is located in the well-equipped and vibrant Biology
Department of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts (8 miles west
of Boston). Brandeis has a state-of-the-art electron microscopy facility
including a Tecnai F30 transmission-electron microscope equipped with a
Gatan GIF energy filter, cryo-holders, a Vitrobot plunge freezer and a
cryo-ultramicrotome. We also share an extensive computational facility.
Brandeis offers excellent opportunities for scientific interaction on campus
and with many colleagues at other scientific institutions in the Boston
area, providing a superb and stimulating scientific environment that greatly
enhances the postdoctoral training experience.

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. degree, an interest in structural
biology, and should enjoy working as part of an energetic team. A strong
background in one (or more) of the following fields is desirable: (cryo-)
electron microscopy (tomography, single particle analysis ...),
cryo-sectioning (frozen-hydrated), image processing/analysis techniques,
and/or cell biology/protein biochemistry. Additional training will be
provided where necessary.

Interested candidates should send a CV including areas of expertise and
research interest, publications list, and names and contact information for
3 references to Dr. Daniela Nicastro at nicastro at brandeis.edu .

Best wishes,

Daniela Nicastro
