Dear Michael, dear colleagues,

I am very sad to hear about Roger’s passing. Thank you for sharing this sad news with our community.

Roger had a profound impact on our research when I started my lab at ETH Zurich in 2014. He encouraged us, and advised us on how to get started with cryo-FIB milling on a material sciences dual-beam instrument. This was a critical contribution to our work and allowed us to gain access to the technology long before dedicated BIO-cryo-FIB milling instruments became available. Roger’s input was invaluable, and all of our early projects — as well as those of many colleagues — benefited from his expertise.

I remember Roger as a wonderfully pleasant colleague, full of curiosity and enthusiasm for the development of EM methods.

Sincerely,

Martin
