Cryo- Electron Microscopy Specialist in Scientific Core Facility
*         Full Time (40 h/w)
*         Klosterneuburg near Vienna, Austria
*         Position limited until 31.10.2026 (maternity replacement, extension t.b.d.)

The Electron Microscopy Facility (EMF) at ISTA supports the vibrant international scientific community at the institute, with state-of-the-art cryo-EM infrastructure, covering single-particle analysis, ion-beam milling and cryo-electron tomography workflows. We are looking for a highly motivated person who will support EM facility users in the cryo-EM related tasks in a challenging international environment. This position is initially limited as a maternity leave replacement, but an extension of the contract can be discussed during the employment.

Responsibilities

*                     Operate and maintain the cryo-EM equipment, including troubleshooting technical issues

*                     Conduct training, assistance, on-site support and supervision of researchers

*                     Data processing and assistance to user with data processing

*                     Monitoring of systems, regular system check including systems alignment to guarantee high-quality performance

*                     Monitoring of compliance with rules to ensure all safety protocols and standard operating procedures are followed

*                     Active contribution to the methodology development of the EM facility

Your Profile

  *   Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Structural Biology or Physics and/or proven high-end cryo-EM hands-on experience
  *   Practical experience in the following cryo-EM application areas: sample preparation, electron tomography and SPA data collection, cryo-EM data processing
  *   Strong computational skills, with a specific focus on cryo-EM related SW for data collection and processing
  *   Excellent team player that can also work independently
  *   High degree of reliability, organizational and interpersonal skills
  *   Service oriented approach towards researches in a multidisciplinary environment
  *   Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills in English
