Dear EM (helical assemblies interested) community,

We are delighted to announce the second edition of the Grenoble
Practical Workshop dedicated to helical symmetry determination of
biological polymers imaged by cryo-EM, scheduled for July *8th to 12th,
2024, online*.

Building upon the success of last year's workshop, where we had over 20
projects, more than half of which were resolved during the workshop or
shortly after, we are excited to continue facilitating breakthroughs in
helical structure determination.

Please note that this year, due to the specific procedures required, we
regret to inform you that projects involving *amyloid* *or*
*microtubules will not be accepted*.

We are honored to host two distinguished speakers this year: *Ed
Egelman* and *Arjen Jakobi*, who will enrich our discussions and
practical sessions with their expertise.

Determining the helical parameters remains a significant challenge for
many researchers, and our workshop aims to provide hands-on guidance
through this intricate process. We will delve into power spectra
interpretation, 2D class-averages analysis, and raw data inspection to
extract valuable insights.

While helixplorer (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://rico.ibs.fr/helixplorer/__;!!Mih3wA!HpHyFMhwk_z8WWm7S1anqKBZZSu0QnZgyGSyJLUkQAcxFOW4a89Iu21P3iMIC6kIe-EN8nXWfhPedMK3kdpy1Qv5c5rk$ ) will be a key tool
covered in the practical sessions, we encourage exploration beyond this
approach to accommodate diverse research needs.

In addition to helical parameters determination, we will address broader
reconstruction strategies, such as handling flexible helices, navigating
multiple symmetries, and integrating data from different symmetry
filaments through subtraction approaches.

Applicants at any career level (PhD, postdocs, senior scientists, etc.)
are welcome to apply, provided they have an ongoing project involving a
helical sample and are encountering challenges in solving its structure.
Participants will work on their own data during the workshop, sharing
selected raw images, 2D class-averages, and power spectra with the
organizers while maintaining confidentiality regarding the specific
nature and function of their protein/filaments.

To apply, please send your application, including a brief description of
your project and difficulties, along with screenshots of raw data and 2D
class-averages, to:

*The deadline for applications is June 15th*.

We are eagerly anticipating another productive workshop, and we look
forward to welcoming you to the virtual platform.

Warm regards,

Ambroise & Leandro
