Postdoctoral Positions in Structural Biology of Translational Apparatus
Human Frontiers Science Program-funded postdoctoral position(s) are
available immediately to study the "Structure and Function of ribosomal
RNAs: mechanistic and functional evolution of ribosome". The ribosome is a
large macromolecular assembly that provides the platform for protein
synthesis within the cell. One of the research interests in my laboratory
is to understand the evolution of the protein-synthetic machinery, by
exploring the minimal structural requirements for a functional ribosome in
bacteria. Our approach involves a combination of techniques of
biochemistry, molecular biology, three-dimensional cryo-electron
microscopy, and molecular modeling. For previous publications on related
work, see Agrawal et al., Nature Struct. Biol., (1999) vol. 6, 643; Frank &
Agrawal, Nature, (2000) vol. 406, 318; Agrawal et al., J. Mol. Biol.,
(2001) vol. 311, 777; Mears et al., J. Mol. Biol., (2002) vol. 321, 215.
The interested candidate should have a Ph.D. in biochemistry or biophysics.
Previous experience in ribosome biochemistry and/or in electron microscopy
and digital image processing would be preferred, but not essential. Please
send your CV and contact details of three academic referees to:
