[3dem] Graphene grids available

Dear all,

The fabrication process at PUXANO has been optimized, and we can now produce larger amounts of high-quality graphene grids per month. Some details about how we guarantee high quality graphene grids (i.e. carbon film, 1.2/1.3, 300 mesh, Au framework, grids with >80% coverage of single layer graphene):


  *   Manufacturing and shipment are done within 30 days.
  *   Grids are inspected using TEM, whereby we look at 5 regions to determine coverage and graphene surface quality (4 grids per 20).
  *   Approved batches are stored in a sealed aluminum bag under inert gas conditions

Advantages for graphene grids:


  *   Easy, reproducible sample preparation protocol for thin ice: 5-10s glow discharging, 3-4µl and 0.5-1.5s blotting time
  *   Work at low yield (0.3-0.1 mg/ml)
  *   Address problems related to :
     *   preferred particle orientation
     *   stabilize fragile protein complexes
  *   Compatible with tomography and tilted data collection


Importantly, we have also lowered grids pricing now with 10%. Due times should be max. 2 months.

Secondly, we are also planning to launch a new product to help the academic community. This new product will be a cryoEM grid fabrication kit to produce 1000 grids in-house, which should lower grid prices significantly. It would be very helpful for us, if interested parties could contact us, so we can estimate a bit the interest. We believe that especially core facilities with a carbon coater and that use ~1000 grids per 6-12 months will benefit from this.
