This is a full-time fixed-term position for 1 year.

Job Description

In this role you would develop Open Research Data (ORD) services and APIs as part of a multi-institute team, as well as manage local services at the University of Geneva's EM facility. You would develop the data transfer service capable of handling large data volumes and integrate this with the SciCat<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.psi.ch/en/awi/scicat__;!!Mih3wA!HcnfFeKyQVqBe-6H11GlBsNtQ2ZLDtiTetPaq1JT2phFqLveuMOFMLzJwSVx3BXr1N6vP44HkDYRQnhM6KjKBwMjUw$ > Data Catalog APIs.

Your Responsibilities:


  *   Data engineering and software development for the Open EM project with the aim to integrate UNIGE EM facilities with the central data catalog, allowing for the automated collection and upload of data and metadata

  *   Develop and maintain the data transfer service between UNIGE and other facilities
  *   Create data conversion scripts
  *   Coordinate between project members and UNIGE staff

Your Profile:

You have a background in software engineering, backend development, or devops. You have experience with data-intensive tasks, as well as using and designing APIs to integrate systems. Openness to new technologies and a strong desire to acquire new skills are desired. Experience working in a research environment is not required but is of advantage.

Requirements:


  *   A degree in computer science or in engineering or scientific discipline with strong computational background
  *   Experience with python and Linux
  *   Understanding of microservices and API development
  *   Knowledge of data storage management and infrastructure
  *   Knowledge of devops practices (git, CI/CD, containerization)
  *   Willingness to acquire new technical skills
  *   Good communication and self-organization skills
  *   Ability to work independently within a distributed team
  *   Good English skills required
  *   (Optional) Knowledge of electron microscopy, imaging, macromolecular structure, or related fields
