[3dem] Grid boxes for less ice contamination

Dear colleagues,

In the past, we had several complaints about the grid boxes available on the market. Having to remove the lid completely to access a single grid brings a certain risk for all other stored grids. And needing different grid boxes for clipped and unclipped grids is more expensive and requires more organization to stock them. It also limits your storage capacity, especially since most can only fit four grids. Handling fib milled grids with pointed tweezers can damage lamellae, and although broader-tipped tweezers help, it’s impossible to take grids out of the boxes with them. We also often found the contrast poor with the currently available grid boxes.

A year and a half ago, we developed grid boxes ourselves to eliminate all these problems. The new boxes became very popular in the institute and recently other universities have also asked for them. We have now created a little website to share them with the cryo-em community. If you’re interested, visit mygridbox.com.

Hope it helps!

Kind Regards
Armin Picenoni
