My lab at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville has an open postdoctoral position to study nascent protein localization to sub-cellular compartments. We are looking for a motivated scientist with experience in either yeast or mammalian cell culture, including tagging and purification of RNA/protein and membrane protein complexes.
The successful candidate will be joining a recently established group at the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics at UVA. We are particularly interested in determining molecular snapshots of co-translational protein targeting intermediates of nascent proteins to membranes of organelles, including endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria, and how this is perturbed in cancer. We employ molecular biology, biochemistry and structural biology approaches with main focus on single particle cryo-electron microscopy and more recently cryo-electron tomography techniques.
Our group has direct access to the UVA in-house Molecular Electron Microscopy Core (MEMC) facility. The facility currently houses a 300 kV ThermoFisher Titan Krios, a 200 kV Glacios, equipped with Gatan K3/GIF and Falcon IV direct electron detectors and a 200 kV F20 and 120kV Spirit microscope.
