Subject : [3dem] Cryo-EM scientist position at PSI

A research scientist position is available in the group of Prof. Volodymyr Korkhov at the Paul Scherrer Institute & Institute of Molecular Biology and Biophysics, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. The scientist will use advanced cryo-EM techniques including single particle analysis and cryo-electron tomography to study the structure and organisation of membrane protein complexes involved in cellular signalling. The main duties will include: - Leading new research projects on cryo-EM structure determination of membrane proteins - Support of ongoing research projects (including training of PhD students and postdocs) - Implementation of advanced data collection and image processing methods, including single particle analysis, cryo-ET and sub-tomogram averaging As a member of the Korkhov group the candidate will enjoy access to the EM facility at PSI (Jeol JEM 2200 microscope equipped with a K2 camera) and to ScopeM at ETH Zurich (three Titan Krios microscopes equipped with energy filters, VPP, K2 and K3 cameras, as well as a range of instruments for in situ structural biology. The high performance computing infrastructure for image analysis is available at PSI. Additionally, the candidate will benefit from access to all shared research infrastructure and research platforms at PSI and ETH Zurich. A high standard of living, a competitive salary and opportunities for personal, professional and career development will be provided. The successful candidate will have a strong background in SPA and/or cryo-ET data collection and processing. Expertise in cell biology, biochemistry will be an advantage. The candidate should be highly motivated, have an interest in membrane biology, be able to work in a team, have good communication skills (working language is English) and hold a doctoral degree in a life science-related discipline. Applications should include a CV, a publication list and details of two referees, and should be sent by e-mail to Prof. Volodymyr Korkhov (volodymyr.korkhov at psi.ch).
