The Max Planck Institute of Biophysics is a leading international research institute that uses biophysical, biochemical and computational methods to investigate the structure, dynamics and function of cellular systems at the molecular scale. It consists of four scientific departments, multiple research groups and scientific core facilities, with about 200 employees from more than 25 countries. It is located at the Campus Riedberg in Frankfurt am Main.

The Departments of Molecular Sociology (Beck and Turonova Labs) and Theoretical Biophysics (Hummer Lab) study the structure and function of macromolecular assemblies with a focus on in situ structural biology and molecular modeling. Funded by a recent award from the Chan Zuckerberg Foundation, we will pursue a technology development project in Visual Proteomics that aims to detect macromolecular species in cryo electron tomograms. 

 

We seek to recruit

Three Postdocs (f/m/d)

in cryo electron tomography, image processing and molecular dynamics

 

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in physics, biophysics, computer science, biomedical/medical engineering, or computational biology. The ideal candidates will have experience in one or more of the following subject areas:

-        Experimental cryo electron microscopy, particularly tomography

-        Subtomogram averaging and classification

-        image processing

-        computer graphics (especially geometry/topology)

-        molecular dynamics

-        structural analysis and theoretical structural biology

-        programming skills in an object oriented language (C++, Python)
