Dear all,

The Sauer and Davis labs in the Biology Department at MIT are jointly
recruiting a postdoctoral researcher with an interest in probing the
structure and function of macromolecular machines such as energy dependent
proteases and ribosomes. In this position, applicants will work to
determine complex structures using single-particle cryoEM, and to integrate
these structures with decades of biochemical studies to understand how
these machines assemble and function.

This jointly advised position is fully funded. It affords the applicant the
opportunity to employ a combination of structural, biochemical and
computational approaches, and to be simultaneously mentored by both an
established and new investigator. Additionally, candidates will have the
opportunity to develop a completely independent project on a ~15-20% time
basis.

Applicants should have experience purifying and imaging protein complexes,
generating 3D reconstructions, and have an interest in helping to further
develop and employ new methods such as CryoDRGN to analyze heterogeneous
structural ensembles.

Representative work from our labs includes:
· CryoDRGN: reconstruction of heterogeneous cryo-EM structures using neural
networks [https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33542510/__;!!Mih3wA!WLq7HLC8dHx0GEYhPbDFWgIgq8hok6j_zL8xmHJiFHWxnjp5Zqp7b8E58MYDEmqUnw$ ];
· Modular assembly of the bacterial large ribosomal subunit [

· Structural basis of ClpXP recognition and unfolding of ssrA-tagged
substrates [https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33089779/__;!!Mih3wA!WLq7HLC8dHx0GEYhPbDFWgIgq8hok6j_zL8xmHJiFHWxnjp5Zqp7b8E58MaNu7pMDA$ ].

Interested applicants are asked to apply by emailing
structurefunction at mit.edu to describe their interest in the position, and
provide a curriculum vitae and contact information for three references.

will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated
against on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender
identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status,
ancestry, or national or ethnic origin.
