Hi All,

I am looking to hire a postdoc and research technician in my lab, which is opening in January 2021 at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the Department of Biophysics & Biophysical Chemistry. Generally, we will be studying excitatory neurotransmission, protein homeostasis, and the intersection of these using cryo-EM, biochemistry, in vitro reconstitution, and biophysical techniques. The target start dates are negotiable. Lab members will have unencumbered access to the Titan Krios with K3, phase plate, and energy filter at the Beckman Center for Cryo-EM at Johns Hopkins.

Postdoc candidates will have a strong background in protein biochemistry/biophysics, crystallography, cryo-EM, and/or computational biology, have a sense of independence, and should be motivated to push the boundaries of structural biology. The postdoc will have a central role in starting the lab, developing cryo-EM at Johns Hopkins, and fostering an open and collaborative environment for structural biology throughout the rich scientific community at Johns Hopkins. Applicants must also have excellent communication skills. The applicant must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in a related field by the start date.

Applicants for the technician position should have, or be about to complete, an undergraduate degree. The candidate should have prior experience in an academic lab, and be familiar with standard lab techniques, particularly molecular biology and cell culture. You will be supporting day-to-day lab work, maintenance, and duties (stocking, placing/receiving orders, helping to set up the lab), in addition to collecting and analyzing data as needed. Prior experience in cryo-EM and protein biochemistry is not necessary but desired. Candidates should also have a passion for or desire to learn about uncovering biology/medicine through structural and biochemical techniques, and there will be ample opportunity to expand your skill sets.

Interested applicants should apply directly by sending cover letter (especially indicating future project interests and career goals), C.V., and contact information for three references to twomey at jhmi.edu.

Best wishes,

Ed
