Dear Colleagues,

I would like to draw your attention to the job opening for cryo-electron microscopy research scientist in the lab of Prof. Nenad Ban at ETH Zurich, please see details below.

All the best,

Simone

Position open: Cryo-electron microscopy research scientist

Job description: We are looking for a staff cryo-EM research scientist in the laboratory of Professor Nenad Ban at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biophysics of the ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) (IMBB; https://mol.biol.ethz.ch). The research will be conducted in an excellent scientific environment investigating structure and function of large cellular assemblies and having access to state-of-the-art equipment. We are currently using transmission electron microscopes including an FEI Tecnai F20 and two FEI Titan Krios microscopes (with Falcon III and Gatan K2 and K3 detectors) within the ScopeM microscopy center of the ETH. The research scientist will work closely with PhD students and postdocs to support their research projects.

Responsibilities include project support on difficult cryo-EM structure determination procedures and advanced aspects of microscope operations, training of students and postdocs in cryo-EM methods, establishment and maintenance of the computing infrastructure, methods development, and possible engagement in independent projects.

The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in life science or biochemistry with proven track record in structure determination of biological macromolecules using cryo-transmission electron microscopy and image reconstruction. The candidate should also be motivated to develop new methodologies and to be engaged in teaching and training. The official language of the laboratory is English. The initial appointment is for a period of three years with a possibility of promotion into an open-end contract.
