Marin, this discussion is not about your favorite subject, which is the cut-off criterion, but about “meanings” of FSC and Abbe-like criteria with respect to each other. 

Daniel: we would need here input from Steve Ludtke as he likes to explain the difference between resolvability of a map and its spectral SNR properties. There are no good methods to decide the former, as you point out; the latter is given by the FSC (with all caveats Marin likes to dwell on).
