The Division of Intramural Research of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health (DIR, NICHD, NIH, https://www.nichd.nih.gov/about/org/dir) is looking for a new independent, tenure-track investigator. We are looking for outstanding candidates interested in using cryo-EM to uncover physical mechanisms of biological and pathophysiological processes, particularly with experience in structural modeling to transform cryo-EM data into meaningful macromolecular or membrane structures. Space, staffing, and dedicated time on both a Titan Krios-class cryo-electron microscope and a screening scope will be well defined to the successful applicant. Expertise, staffing, and modern instrumentation are already in place for preparing, freezing, and screening samples for single particle imaging, viral and vesicular tomography, and thin cellular processes that would allow candidates to complement the biophysical analysis of the functions of membranes, proteins, and cells with ultrahigh resolution analysis of their structure. Research is investigator-initiated. We prefer outstanding scientists on the basis of their interests, creativity, and scholarship. Neighboring investigators work on mechanisms of membrane remodeling, structure/function of membrane channels, entry and exit of pathogens, intercellular communication, and molecular modeling (https://www.nichd.nih.gov/about/org/dir/affinity-groups/PBM). This recruitment will run through the NIH’s Stadtman Mechanism (https://irp.nih.gov/careers/trans-nih-scientific-recruitments/stadtman-tenure-track-investigators). Please contact Joshua Zimmerberg, joshz at helix.nih.gov<mailto:joshz at helix.nih.gov> for inquiries that are not covered in the Stadtman FAQ: https://tenuretrack.nih.gov/apply/faq/stadtman.html. The NICHD is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive community.
