Ph.D. student position in cellular cryo-electron tomography

A PhD position is available in Mikhail Eltsov’s team at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (http://www.igbmc.fr/research/department/3/team/138/) to study the organization of the cell nucleus and mitotic chromosomes using correlative optical and electron microscopy, together with cellular cryo-electron tomography. If selected, you will use cutting-edge techniques and participate in the further development of methods for in situ high-resolution structure determination. You will have access to state-of-the-art research instrumentation, including a Titan Krios microscope equipped with a K3 camera and a cryo-FIB-SEM.

You should have a master’s degree in cell biology, biophysics or a related field. Experience in (cryo-) electron microscopy, image processing, optical microscopy, or hands-on histology skills would be an advantage. You will need good written and spoken English to effectively communicate, both in the team and with collaborators.
For details of the project and other enquiries, please contact Prof. Mikhail Eltsov. To apply, please email your motivational letter, CV, copies of your university degrees and names of referees to mikhail.eltsov at igbmc.fr

The Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC, http://www.igbmc.fr) is one of the leading biomedical research centres in Europe and brings together more than 700 researchers, PhD students and scientific staff, grouped into 50 research teams, with over a dozen core facilities. IGBMC is dedicated to fundamental and applied research in the life sciences, in the fields of gene expression regulation, epigenetics, developmental biology and human genetics. Researchers have access to a wide range of methods including structural and functional analysis of biomolecules, cell biology, high-throughput omics and mouse model systems.
