Hey Thomas,

Check out the Igloo! I think we should give it a try. Watch the movie- I like especially how it holds the forceps for you while you transfer the cryo pot to where you can see to transfer grids to the box.

And it looks like it would help with our problem of condensing ethane faster.

Looks like they see forceps too- might be a good idea. You still need to spend money?

Cheers,

Valorie

Subject: [3dem] Cryo-EM Sample Preparation Tools

Hello Everybody,

We wanted to inform the community that NanoSoft is now offering 2 new tools to improve efficiency and ease of use in the cryo-EM sample preparation workflow.

"The Igloo<https://www.nanosoftmaterials.com/igloo-system>" fits on top of the styrofoam vitrification dewar that comes with the FEI/Thermo Fisher Vitrobot. It creates a more enclosed environment above the dewar, such that this area, through which the vitrified sample is transferred to the grid button, is less exposed to the humidity of the ambient environment. Furthermore, it keeps the styrofoam ring from collecting ice, which is deposited into the liquid nitrogen and can contaminate grids. Our first customers have been using the Igloo and have seen significant drops in ice contamination. Furthermore, the Igloo offers features that make sample transfer much more ergonomic, reducing accidental grid damage.

The "Autogrid Inspection Tool<https://www.nanosoftmaterials.com/autogrid-inspection-tool>" integrates seamlessly into the FEI/Thermo Fisher Cassette Loading Station. Although the Grid Clipping Station has a "groove" to check that grids are clipped well, the Cassette Loading Station does not. The "Autogrid Inspection Tool" provides a convenient, low-cost, "last-chance" way to check the quality of the clipping prior to loading autogrids into the cassette.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or comments you may have about these new tools.
