      It was deep regret that I learned the news that Michael passed away. My thought are with you at this sad moment. You may have already heard: Professor Michael Rossmann passed away earlier this morning, May 14th 2019, surrounded by his close family. Michael was a towering figure in structural biology, and has mentored, inspired and influenced so many of us. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered.

Duke University Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility (SMIF) seeks a cryo-EM facility team leader. The successful candidate will join a collaborative research community and will play a lead role in overseeing the daily operation and maintenance of the Cryo-TEM and associated sample preparation equipment in SMIF as well as providing training and support to users. A state-of-the-art 300 kV Titan Krios TEM with both K3 and Falcon III detectors is housed in the Duke University Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility (SMIF).

The Centre for Ultrastructural Imaging (CUI) is the central electron microscopy unit at King's College London. We offer electron microscope services for internal and external collaborators from academia. We also provide a commercial diagnostic electron microscopy service to the NHS and collaborate with industrial instrument manufacturing partners.

The CUI is seeking to recruit an applications expert in research electron microscopy (EM) with in-depth knowledge of EM technical and scientific practices, EM methods and procedures. Able to readily implement knowledge through gained experience and formal qualification across a range of advanced specialist technical support EM activities covering scanning and transmission electron microscopy in a basic research setting.

The role will report to the Academic Director and be divided between day to day operational management of CUI (ensuring the unit effectively implements the strategic objectives of King's) and the delivery and development of the EM research and service activity.
