Associate Research Scientist for Cryo-Electron Microscopy Core Facility, Columbia University, New York, NY.

Columbia University seeks two Associate Research Scientists to serve as Assistant Directors for our Cryogenic Electron Microscope Core Facility (Cryo-EM Core).
This state-of-the-art facility, which was established by Nobel Laurate Joachim Frank, supports cryo-EM analysis of a wide variety of biological samples by a vibrant research community currently comprising ten laboratory groups and more than 50 scientists located on Columbia's Medical School, Manhattanville, and Morningside Heights campuses. We seek two experienced Associate Research Scientists who will provide technical support for this community during a period of substantial expansion in both hardware resources and users. While the focus of the positions will be microscope maintenance and user training, there will also be ample opportunity for scientific collaboration.

The Associate Research Scientists will participate in all of the CryoEM Core's daily operations, including maintenance and upkeep of the electron microscopes and associated equipment, ordering supplies, interacting with vendors, and assisting the Director in managing the facility. Particular emphasis will be placed on training users in sample-preparation and cryo-EM data collection methods and supervising their use of the microscopes. Successful experience with single-particle cryo-EM structure determination and proficiency in the related data processing/analysis procedures would be a plus as would strong computational skills or experience with tomographic reconstruction. The position will offer the opportunity to co-author papers when substantive contributions are made to the research projects of facility users.

The CryoEM Core is currently equipped with 3 cryo-TEMs (Polara, Tecnai F20 and Titan Krios). Orders have been placed for 3 additional Titan Krios instruments that will be installed during the Fall of 2018, and an additional screening microscope is likely to be installed in 2019.

Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity Employer. To apply, please send a CV and statement of interest and the names of three references to Masgan Saidi, ms4597 at cumc.columbia.edu<mailto:ms4597 at cumc.columbia.edu>.
