Columbia University seeks a Research Support Associate or Specialist to join our Cryogenic Electron Microscope Core Facility (CryoEM Core) support team.

Columbia's CryoEM Core provides state-of-the-art Cryogenic Electron Microscopy support for analysis of a wide variety of biological samples.  The Research Support Associate/Specialist will participate in all of the CryoEM Core's daily operations, including maintenance, upkeep and use of the electron microscopes and associated equipment, ordering supplies, interacting with vendors, and assisting the Director in managing the facility.  Particular emphasis will be placed on training users in specimen preparation, including negative staining and cryo-plunging, and operation of the microscopes and associated equipment.  Successful experience with single-particle cryo-EM structure determination and proficiency in the related data processing/analysis procedures would be a plus.  The position will offer the opportunity to co-author papers whenever substantive contributions are made to the research project of facility users.

The CryoEM Core is currently equipped with 3 Cryo-TEMs (Polara, Tecnai F20 and Titan Krios), and installation of 3 more Titan Krios instruments is anticipated for the Fall of 2018.
The successful candidate will have an M.S./Ph.D. degree or equivalent background in biology, bioengineering or in a related field and must have a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in cryogenic electron microscopy. A strong background in computation would be a plus. Must have excellent English communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team, as well as independently, on a wide variety of research projects.  Must be detail-oriented, focused, and highly motivated.
