A position as Senior scientist - expert in Cryo Electron Microscopy is available at the Scientific Center for Optical and Electron Microscopy (ScopeM) of ETH Zurich.

ETH Zurich is one of the world's leading universities specialising in science and technology. It is renowned for its excellent education, its cutting-edge fundamental research and its efforts to put new knowledge and innovations directly into practice. The Scientific Center for Optical and Electron Microscopy (ScopeM) is a central scientific technology platform of ETH Zurich providing resources and services in light and electron microscopy. As of March 1st, 2019, or upon agreement, we have an opening for a position as

Senior scientist - expert in Cryo Electron Microscopy

ScopeM maintains state-of-the art microscopy equipment and supports a variety of interdisciplinary research and training programs in light and electron microscopy. ScopeM operates numerous transmission, scanning electron microscopes (TEM & SEM) and Focused Ion Beam SEM (FIB-SEM), including in particular several instruments dedicated to cryo-electron microscopy.

Your main responsibilities include the operation of high-end cryo-TEMs as well as related equipment for sample preparation and software suites for data acquisition and/or image processing and analysis. You are furthermore in charge of providing consulting and support to researchers in single-particle cryo-electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography. You will train researchers in the field, including for sample preparation, data acquisition, image processing and analysis. Finally, you will execute independently service projects and ensure the further development of a state-of-the art cryo-electron microscopy facility and activity at ScopeM - ETH Zurich.

You bring along strong competences in cryo-electron microscopy with a demonstrated experience in the autonomous operation of high-end cryo-TEM. You are used to work independently and to provide support/training to users in electron microscopy, including for sample preparation.

The position is initially for three years but can be prolonged. The ETH Zürich is an equal opportunity employer, and ScopeM offers a welcoming working environment in an international and multidisciplinary environment. You will interact with an experienced team, which is supported by excellent mechanical and electronics workshops. The lab languages are German and English.

We look forward to receiving your online application including the following documents: cover letter, full CV and reference letters until January 15, 2019. Please note that we exclusively accept applications submitted through our online application portal (see enclosed pdf). Applications via email or postal services will not be considered.
