A junior research assistant position is available in the wonderful EM facility at MRC-LMB.

Experience of EM would be helpful but is not required, training will be provided. This is a permanent contract with excellent employment conditions. The LMB is a fantastic, exciting place to work.

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and excels at deciphering the molecular mechanisms of life. We are seeking a Research Support Assistant to provide technical assistance for the running, maintenance and development of the world-leading electron microscopy facility at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. The main aim of the facility is to support the development and application of cryo-electron microscopy (EM) in the context of Structural Biology for basic and medical research. The EM facility includes ten electron microscopes and associated preparation equipment including three Titan Krios electron microscopes.

The main duties include: maintaining, repairing and upgrading electron microscopes and associated equipment; training and assisting users; troubleshooting problems; contributing to the smooth running of the facility; and facilitating research projects. You will work closely with other facility staff and with users.  

The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree or an equivalent level of training in a technical field and experience working with complex scientific or technical precision instrumentation including hardware and software. Experience of electron microscopy would be an advantage but is not essential. The candidate will be self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal skills, and will have the desire and ability to learn new techniques.
