Dear All,
Structural Biology Imaging Center at UTHealth at Houston seeks for a full-time Cryo-EM Facility Manager. The facility is housed at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, and includes FEI Titan Krios (300 kV FEG; Gatan BioQuantum with K2 Summit direct detector; FEI VoltaPhase Plate; FEI Ceta CMOS camera, 12-position cryo-sample autoloader) that will be operational in January 2018. The facility also houses Technai Polara (300 kV) G2 (FEI) electron cryo-microscope equipped with a Gatan K2 Summit Direct Electron Detector, and dedicated GPU+CPU workstation for frame alignment, initial processing and temporary storage.
The Facility Manager will work with an advisory committee of faculty to oversee the day-to-day operation of cryoEM facility and user training. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  *   General maintenance of cryo- microscopes, including their alignment
  *   Liaise with manufacturer (FEI/Thermo) with regard to instrument preventative maintenance
  *   Maintain ancillary, cryo-EM sample preparation equipment such as Vitrobot, glow discharger etc.
  *   Provide practical training and day-to-day supervision of cryoEM users
  *   Will be directly involved in data collection
  *   Maintain records of equipment usage and report maintenance issues of equipment;
  *   Ensure Facility is in compliance with EH&S
Qualified candidates should have PhD (or MS) in structural biology, biochemistry or related field, at least two years experience in cryoEM, including specimen preparation. Experience in image processing would be an advantage. Effective communication skills are necessary.
The position is supported through several sources including the Structural Biology Imaging Center and by Principal Investigators at UTHealth.  Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience and training. While the position is available immediately, the start date is flexible. The search will remain open until filled.
