Dear colleagues,

Applications are open to all level of scientists including group leader, cryo-EM facility manager, cryo-EM scientist, and post-doctor at the “Centre of Cryo-EM Innovation and Research(CCIR)” in the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenchen, China to work in the field of Structural Biology.


CCIR is a recently established cryo-EM centre in southern China.  It is located in a newly constructed Biological Science Building and has around 1500 m2 laboratory space to house a state-of-the-art facility for cryo-electron microscopy. Multiple FEI Titan Krios, Talos microscopes and other equipment will be installed and commissioned throughout the year 2017 and the early year 2018. There are also excellent auxiliary instruments for samples preparation and GPU workstation, cluster facilities for computing at CCIR and nationally.


Key experience and Competencies

We are looking for dynamic, ambitious and enthusiastic persons with a teaching/research background, who combines technical expertise with strong communication skills, who has an open mind with keening to work with other colleagues, researchers in their work, but also the motivation to work independently.


Essential

A higher degree in biological, physical, or material sciences.

Research experience and expertise in electron microscopy.

Specialist knowledge of electron microscope operation and high-resolution data collection.

Proven track record in three-dimensional electron microscopy and EM image simulation.

Excellent communication skills within a research environment, building highly effective working relationships with scientists and support staff.

Plan time efficiently and be able to work both independently and in a team setting.


Desirable

PhD in Structural Biology, Physical, Material Science or related areas.

Experience in data analysis either single particle images or tomography data.

Experience with field emission gun microscopes, energy filtered imaging and direct electron detectors.

Postdoctoral experience in conducting cutting-edge research in cryo-EM.

Authorship in peer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized scientific journals.

Specialist knowledge of cryo-EM reconstruction software.

Knowledge of scientific computing including Unix shell scripting, Python, programming languages.

Flexible working practice.
