Technical Director for Electron Microscopy Resource Laboratory
The Electron Microscopy Resource Laboratory (EMRL) core facility at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania has an opening for a Technical Director.
The EMRL core facility is equipped with four electron microscopes (Quanta250 SEM, Jeol 1010 TEM, FEI Tecnai T12 TEM and FEI Tecnai F-20 TEM) a Leica EM Grid Plunger, computer workstations and peripherals; and is staffed with a Facility Director, Research Specialist and Technical Director (this position).
Primary responsibilities include training and assisting users on the JOEL 1010 TEM, Quanta250 SEM and Tecnai T12 TEM; client consultation and assisting clients in designing and interpreting experiments; preparation of buffers, fixatives, formvar coat grids, tissue, single particle and ultamicrotomy; equipment maintenance, billing, directing work flow of the laboratory and supervising a Research Specialist.
The candidate is expected to have at least a Master's degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in SEM and TEM, sample preparation for electron microscopy, and have strong communication and teaching skills. This position provides the opportunity for the candidate to directly participate in academic research centered on ultrastructure analysis of biological samples by electron microscopy associated with several different biological areas of research, and to interact with other scientists at the University of Pennsylvania.
