[3dem] Postdoc Fellowship at Umeå University Sweden

Dear all students and postdocs!!

Two postdoctoral fellowships, funded by the Kempe Foundations, are available for highly motivated individuals, with an interest in cryo-EM, tomography and related methods. You will have the opportunity to explore your research project in a scientific environment including several research groups with extensive experience in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology at the recently established cryo-EM facility at Umeå University. Each fellowship is available for 2 years and will be paid to the successful candidate as a tax-free stipend.

This project is focused on understanding the structure, assembly and function of protein complexes associated with membrane vesicles using cryo-electron tomography and advanced imaging techniques. Both the Umeå Core facility for Electron Microscopy and the Biochemical Imaging Centre at Umeå University as well as other UmU facilities (http://www.kbc.umu.se/english/) will be accessible to provide the infrastructure needed for this project.

The EM Facility was recently equipped with a new Titan Krios TEM instrument with a phase plate and both Falcon 3 and K2 direct electron detectors. A total of 6 electron microscopes, together with sample processing facilities, will form a key foundation for the scientific part of this project, which will also include ample possibilities for method development.
