Position number: 636356
To apply: http://jobs.leidos.com/ShowJob/Id/1164413/CRYO-Electron-Microscopy-Team-Lead-(NCI)/

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community and also provides dedicated support to NCI’s intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR) for electron microscopy, protein characterization, protein expression, optical microscopy and genetics. The Center for Molecular Microscopy (CMM) is a collaborative component located in Frederick, Maryland. The mission of the CMM is to provide CCR Investigators with access to high-resolution electron microscopy (EM) for molecular and cellular imaging and to develop new techniques and technologies for structural analysis in these areas. CMM currently has two components, Cryo-EM and focused ion beam scanning EM (FIB SEM), and uses both, as well as related techniques, to collaboratively support CCR research projects. The current recruitment is for the Cryo-EM Team Lead position.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Cryo-EM Team lead will:

  * Work collaboratively with investigators in designing and executing cryo-EM projects
  * Provide scientific and technical advice to investigators on sample preparation, experimental design, data analysis
  *   Oversee CMM staff to assure the continuous operation of the Titan Krios microscope; tasks will include loading samples, screening, and performing high-resolution data collection for single-particle analysis and Cryo-electron tomography;
  *   Lead projects to develop new techniques relevant to high-resolution Cryo-EM;
  *   Evaluate Cryo-EM project applications in single particle analyses and tomography, and assist with evaluations of cellular imaging (FIB SEM) project applications;
  *   Oversee and track progress for Cryo-EM projects;
  *   Manage communications with Cryo-EM collaborators;
  *   Manage maintenance for the Titan Krios and associated instruments (e.g. T12, T20);
  *   Manage data storage and transfer to collaborators as appropriate;
  *   Draft communications for submission to the CMM steering committee;
  *   Train new CMM personnel and other users in use of the Titan Krios and data collection software as necessary;
  * Interact closely and effectively with colleagues within the CMM, including those focused on FIB SEM.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  * Possession of a Doctoral degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Biological Sciences or related discipline.
  * Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U. S. equivalency.
  * Minimum of 5 years of experience with Cryo-EM, Cryo-electron tomography, and high resolution single-particle analysis
  * Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  * Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  * Able to prepare detailed, concise technical reports, including assisting with publications
  *   Strong laboratory skills
  * Able to work dynamically in a diverse team environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  * Experience with negative stain and other specimen preparation techniques for EM
  * Experience with analysis and 3D reconstruction of Cryo-EM data
  * Knowledge of scientific computing including Unix shell scripting, as well as Matlab and Python programming languages.
  * Knowledge of computational aspects of Cryo-EM
