A postdoctoral position is available in the labs of Elizabeth Villa and Susan Taylor at UCSD to study the molecular basis of Parkinson’s disease.

The project is funded by the Michael J Fox foundation, and involves the use of cryo-FIB milling, and high-end cryo-electron tomography in correlation with cryo-light microscopy to address structural and mechanistic questions on the role of LRRK2 in Parkinson’s disease in cells. A strong background in cryo-electron microscopy and/or image processing and molecular modeling is required.

This project is part of a larger collaborative effort that includes the groups of Fritz Herberg (University of Kassel), Andres Leschziner (UCSD), and Mark Ellisman (UCSD). The entire project spans multiple scales and imaging modalities, ranging from X-ray crystallography and high-resolution cryo-EM to tomographic reconstructions of tissues. The successful candidate will interact with all groups and get exposed to these various cutting-edge techniques.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter describing research experience and interests, a CV, and contact information of three references to evilla at ucsd.edu and staylor at ucsd.edu
