DESCRIPTION
The Hurley lab (QB3) is seeking to hire multiple expert researchers in the
analysis of the ESCRT and AP/clathrin membrane remodeling complexes by
electron and fluorescence microscopy. Candidates should have expertise in
the use of cryoelectron tomography, single particle electron microscopy,
and confocal fluorescence microscopy, preferably demonstrated through
publications. The candidates should have demonstrated ability to purify and
reconstitute membrane- associated assemblies of ESCRT and AP/clathrin
complexes or other similar membrane remodeling machineries.

Duties of the Position:
• Purify and fluorescently label ESCRT and/or AP/clathrin complexes and
associated viral proteins.
• Determine binding of ESCRTs and/or AP/clathrin to small, large and giant
unilamellar vesicles.
• Determine effects of ESCRTs and/or AP/clathrin on structure of liposomes
using confocal fluorescence microscopy and cryoelectron microscopy.
• Provide training to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in these
techniques.
• Prepare results for publication, presentations, and grant proposals.

Basic Qualifications:
• A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in structural biology, biophysics,
biochemistry, or a related field is required at the time of application.

Additional qualifications required by start date:
• Post-Ph.D. experience in cryoelectron tomography, single particle
electron microscopy, microscopy of trafficking proteins and vesicles.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience with training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in
microscopy.

Preferred qualifications:
• Experience in confocal fluorescence microscopy.
• Knowledge of the ESCRT and/or AP/clathrin systems, with demonstrated
ability to purify and reconstitute membrane-associated assemblies of ESCRT
and AP/clathrin complexes or other similar membrane remodeling machineries.
• Knowledge of HIV structural and molecular virology.
• Publications demonstrating research in cryoelectron tomography, single
particle electron microscopy, and confocal fluorescence microscopy.

Salary:
The annual salary range is $53,900-$84,300 plus benefits. Salary will be
commensurate with experience. The positions will be full-time for one year
with an approximate start date of June 1, 2016, with a possibility for
renewal.
