Dear cryo-EM professionals,

As you know, Yifan Cheng's groundbreaking work on the high resolution structure of the ion channel TRPV1 stabilized by amphipols represented a milestone for cryo-EM and transmembrane protein structure in general.

Together with Prof. Fadel Samatey and the amphipol developers from the IBPC (CNRS, Paris), I am organizing a mini symposium on the theoretical aspects and practical use of amphipols for cryo-EM as well as crystallography. We have a stellar list of speakers, who are the leading researchers in this emerging field, including the original developers of this exciting new class of chemicals led by Prof. Jean-Luc Popot. We are extremely fortunate to have their support for co-organizing this symposium, which consists of 1.5 days of lectures followed by 1.5 days of practical hands-on training by expert instructors Dr. Manuela Zoonens and Dr. Christel Le Bon.

The workshop will be held February 15-17 at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) in beautiful Okinawa, Japan.
While OIST will cover all costs of the symposium including practicals, participants must pay for their own travel and accommodation. OIST will assist with hotel booking and arrangement of transportation in Okinawa. We have raised external funding to support local transportation and meals during the event.

The deadline has been extended until December 31st since we have a few seats left.
Please consider this unique opportunity by all means to learn about this enabling technology!

Best regards and happy holidays,

   Matthias
