Cryo-EM Facility Manager Position

An opening is available for an accomplished electron microscopist to manage the Structural Electron Microscopy Facility at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.  This position provides the opportunity for a motivated individual to participate in and contribute significantly to a stimulating professional research and teaching environment at the cutting-edge of structural biology. We are searching for a reliable and responsible team member with strong communication skills. Compensation will be set in accord with training and experience, and includes an outstanding benefits package.

Facility equipment includes:

·      FEI 300 kV Polara equipped with a Gatan K2 Summit Direct Electron Detector

·      TF20 connected to a 4kx4k Gatan Ultrascan CCD Camera

·      100 kV FEI Morgagni with a 1kx1k ATM CCD camera

·      two Vitrobots

·      other associated EM equipment

Responsibilities include:

·      Performing weekly tests and calibrations on all microscopes.

·      Working with FEI service engineers to maintain equipment.

·      Training new users

·      Providing technical support to users

·      Facilitating new scientific projects

·      Implementing new technological advances

·      Managing a scheduling system and keeping records of microscope usage

·      Participating in a monthly journal club/workshop that includes all cryo-EM users on campus

The position requires a Ph.D. and 3-5 years of experience in the field of electron microscopy. We are looking for someone that has direct experience with cryo-EM techniques. A working knowledge of Linux and the software packages used to process EM data is desirable.
