This is to remind you the early registration date for the Shanghai cryo-EM meeting (June 14) is only two weeks away. The registration rate will go up significantly after June 14.

Seats for the workshops are almost filled at this point. Please apply ASAP if you are interested in either the computational image processing or the Cryo-EM workshop.

>> Subject: [3dem] 2014 Kuo Cryo-EM Symposium and Workshop in Shanghai, China
>>
>> Dear colleagues,
>>
>> We are pleased to announce the “The 7th K.H. Kuo Summer School of Electron Microscopy and Crystallography” to be held in Shanghai, China from July 26 - 30, 2014. This is a biannual international summer school organized by the K.H. Kuo Education Foundation and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
>>
>> The 2014 summer school is comprised of a cryo-EM workshop (July 26 – 27, 2014) and a symposium "The 2014 Kuo Symposium on 3D Cryo-EM Molecular Imaging” (July 28 – 30, 2014), focusing on both technical and biological breakthroughs in cryo-EM.
>>
>> In the two-day workshop, leading experts will instruct on cryo-EM experimentation (A. Cheng, Scripps; D. Shi HHMI Janelia; C. Xu Brandeis; P. Zhang, Pittsburg) as well as image processing and 3D reconstruction (S. Ludtke, Baylor; S. Scheres MRC; G. Schroder, Duesseldorf).
>>
>> The symposium invited speakers (confirmed) include: David Agard (keynote), Roland Beckman, John Briggs, Bridget Carragher, Wah Chiu, Ken Downing, Tamir Gonen, Grant Jensen, Wen Jiang, Liang Jin, Werner Kuhlbrandt, Masa Kikkawa, Jun Liu, Steve Ludtke, Paul Mooney, Sjors Scheres, Gunnar Schroder, Marc Storm, Haixin Sui, Elizabeth Villa, Hongwei Wang, Peijun Zhang, Hong Zhou.
>>
>> Additional short presentations will be selected from submitted abstracts.
>>
>> There are 8 - 10 IUCr travel awards for young scientists to be selected from submitted abstracts (pending final decision by International Union of Crystallography (IUCr)).
>>
>> The symposium is supported by: The K.H. Kuo Education Foundation, The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Biochemistry and Cell biology CAS, National Center for Protein Science (Shanghai), The FEI company, Gatan, Direct Electron, JEOL, Hitachi High-Tech, among others.
>>
>> Both the symposium and workshop are now open for registration. Early registration before June 14, 2014 is highly encouraged as early registration fee is significantly reduced and the number of seats is limited. This is particularly true for the workshop. In addition to our EM colleagues, we also welcome scientists from the more traditional areas of structural biology such as X-ray crystallography and NMR. Please see the meeting website for more details: (http://www.ncpss.org/newsConference.action).
>>
>> Please forward this message to anybody who might be interested. Hope to see many of you in Shanghai this summer.
