We have an opening for technical assistant in the electron cryo-micropscopy unit of the Department of Structural Biology (director: Werner Kühlbrandt) at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt, Germany (http://biophys.mpg.de). The unit includes three high-end electron microscopes (JEOL 3200 FSS with in-column energy filter and Gatan K2 detector; FEI Polara with a Falon-II detector; shared use of a FEI Titan Krios with a Gatan K2 detector), a Zeiss Auriga FIB/SEM plus three 120 or 80 kV TEMs for routine use .

We are looking for a motivated individual to join an international, highly interactive team of scientists devoted to structural studies of membrane proteins and large macromolecular assemblies by cryo-EM.

Experience in electron microscopy, computer hardware, cryogenics or vacuum technology is an advantage but not required. The position is suitable for beginners.

Responsibilities will include operation and maintenance of the EM unit and interaction with users.

We offer a full-time position funded directly by the Max Planck Society, initially until 30 June 2017, with the possibility of extension. Payment is on the German public service scale (TVöD) according to experience and qualification. The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer. Women are especially encouraged to apply.
